Overview
ILVE Professional Plus ovens use an electronic programmer and control system that rely on a stable electrical supply and proper internal temperature regulation.
If the oven shuts off intermittently, the unit may lose power, stop heating, or become unresponsive during operation, sometimes restarting after a short period. This behavior typically indicates an interruption in electrical supply or a protective shutdown triggered by internal conditions.
In some cases, the programmer may remain active while the oven stops heating, depending on the cause of the interruption.
Most intermittent shutdown issues are related to unstable electrical supply, overheating, or control system interruption. Less commonly, internal electrical components may require service.
Common Causes
If the oven shuts off intermittently during operation, the issue is typically related to one of the following:
- Unstable electrical supply
- Loose or inconsistent power connection
- Circuit breaker issue or partial trip
- Overheating protection activation
- Safety thermostat activation due to excessive internal temperature
- Restricted airflow causing internal heat buildup
- Control system interruption
- Internal electrical fault
Operational Note
Professional Plus ovens are equipped with a safety thermostat that will shut the unit down if excessive internal temperatures are detected. This may occur due to airflow restriction, high-temperature operation, or installation-related ventilation issues.
Occasional interruption due to external power fluctuation may occur, but repeated or consistent shutdown during operation is not normal and should be evaluated.
Troubleshooting Tip
Review the troubleshooting chart on the following page before contacting service.| Possible Cause | What To Do |
|---|---|
| Oven shuts off randomly | Unstable power supply — verify electrical circuit |
| Oven shuts off and restarts | Control reset due to interruption — monitor and retest |
| Display resets or turns off | Power fluctuation — check breaker and supply |
| Shutdown during high temperature use | Overheating or safety thermostat activation — check airflow |
| Unit repeatedly shuts off | Internal fault — service required |
Step 1: Confirm power status
Steps:
- Determine when shutdown occurs (startup, mid-cycle, high heat)
- Check if the display turns OFF or resets
- Confirm if the oven restarts automatically
Important:
- Understanding when the shutdown occurs helps determine if the issue is electrical, thermal, or control-related
Step 2: Check circuit breaker
Steps:
- Locate the circuit breaker assigned to the oven
- Check if the breaker is OFF or tripped
- Reset by turning OFF, then back ON
- Confirm power is restored to the unit
Step 3: Confirm electrical supply
ILVE ranges require a 220–240 volt supply for proper heating performance.Steps:
- Confirm the unit is properly connected to the electrical supply
- Check for loose or disconnected wiring or plug
- Verify outlet or hardwired connection is active
- Ensure breaker is fully ON (no partial trip)
- Confirm unit is receiving full 220–240V supply
Electrical Requirements & Tips
- Circuit amperage varies by model and size — refer to the series-specific power tables at the end of this guide.
- If the range receives 120V instead of 240V, the display and lights may function, but the oven will not heat properly.
- If electrical supply is uncertain, consult a qualified electrician.
Step 4: Evaluate airflow & ventilation
Steps:
- Check for blocked vents or restricted airflow
- Avoid overcrowding oven cavity
- Ensure proper spacing around cookware
- Confirm installation allows proper ventilation around the unit
Important:
- Restricted airflow or improper ventilation can cause internal heat buildup, triggering protective shutdown or safety thermostat activation.
Step 5: Reset the oven
A reset can clear temporary faults related to overheating or control interruptions.
Steps:
- Turn OFF the circuit breaker
- Wait at least 2 minutes
- Turn the breaker back ON
- Test the oven at 350°F (175°C) using Convection / Fan mode
Step 6: Observe behavior pattern
Steps:
- Display turns OFF completely → power interruption
- Display resets → electrical fluctuation
- Display remains ON but oven stops → control or thermal issue
Step 7: Identify oven behavior
| Situation | Issue | Possible Causes |
|---|---|---|
| A | Shutdown occurs randomly | Unstable electrical supply |
| B | Shutdown occurs at high temperatures | Overheating or safety thermostat activation |
| C | Display resets during shutdown | Control system issue |
| D | Repeated shutdown with no clear pattern | Internal fault |
Step 8: Identify unsafe conditions
Steps:
- Breaker trips repeatedly
- Burning smell or visible damage
- Signs of overheating or electrical failure
- Power loss affecting multiple appliances
If any of these occur:
- Turn OFF power at the breaker
- Do NOT attempt repeated resets
- Do NOT attempt internal inspection
- Contact a qualified technician
When to contact service
Service is required if:
- Unit does not power on after reset
- Breaker continues to trip
- Display remains blank
- Unit is unresponsive
Possible causes include:
- Control board failure
- Internal wiring issue
- Power supply fault
- Electrical connection issue
These components require inspection by a qualified service technician.
