Overview
ILVE Nostalgie ranges use precision gas burners designed to produce a stable, evenly distributed blue flame for consistent cooking performance.
During normal operation, the flame should be uniform around the burner, with even height and consistent color.
If the flame appears uneven, irregular, or inconsistent in color or distribution, this typically indicates an issue affecting gas flow or burner performance.
In most cases, uneven flame is caused by blocked burner ports, improper burner assembly, or airflow conditions rather than a component failure.
Common Causes
If burners are clicking constantly, the issue is typically related to:
- Moisture in burner or ignition components
- Burner cap or flame divider misaligned
- Food debris around igniter
- Knob stuck in ignition position
- Electrical ignition switch sticking
- Recent cleaning or spillover
Operational Note
Nostalgie burners are designed to produce a clean, blue, evenly distributed flame during operation.
- Slight variation during ignition is normal
- Flame should stabilize quickly once burner is lit
- Yellow or uneven flame is not normal and indicates an issue
Consistent flame performance depends on proper burner assembly, clean ports, and unobstructed gas flow.
Troubleshooting Tip
Review the troubleshooting chart on the following page before contacting service.| Possible Cause | What To Do |
|---|---|
| Blocked burner ports | Clean burner holes |
| Burner misaligned | Re-seat burner components |
| Food or grease buildup | Clean burner and surrounding area |
| Moisture present | Allow burner to dry |
| Uneven gas flow | Check gas supply |
| Improper reassembly | Reinstall correctly |
Step 1: Confirm flame behavior
Steps:
- Ignite burner
- Observe flame pattern and color
Result interpretation:
- Even blue flame → Normal operation
- Uneven or irregular flame → Continue diagnosis

Step 2: Inspect burner ports
Steps:
- Turn off burner and allow to cool
- Inspect burner holes for blockage
Action:
- Remove debris carefully
- Ensure all ports are open
Important:
- Blocked ports are the most common cause of uneven flame.
Step 3: Inspect burner alignment
Steps:
- Remove grates and burner caps
- Check alignment of burner components
Action:
- Ensure burner sits flat and centered
Reference:
- Improper alignment can interfere with ignition sensing
Step 4: Clean burner componets
Steps:
- Remove burner parts
- Clean grease or residue buildup
Action:
- Use non-abrasive cleaning methods
- Dry completely before reinstallation
Step 5: Check for moisture
Steps:
- Identify recent cleaning or spillover
- Inspect for water in burner or igniter
Result interpretation:
- Allow full drying time
- Retest
Step 6: Check gas supply
Steps:
- Test other burners
- Confirm gas supply os steady
Result interpretation:
- All burners affected → Gas supply issue
- One burner affected → Local burner issue
Step 7: Observe temperature behavior
| Situation | Issue | Possible Causes |
|---|---|---|
| A | Flame uneven on one side | Blocked ports or misalignment |
| B | Yellow/orange flames | Contamination or airflow issue |
| C | Weak flame | Gas flow issue |
| D | Flame improves after cleaning | Debris or blockage |
| E | Flame improves after reassembly | Alignment issue |
Step 8: Identify unsafe conditions
Steps:
- Persistent uneven flame after cleaning
- Flame lifting or separating from burner
- Strong yellow flame across all burners
- Inconsistent flame regardless of setup
If any of these occur:
- Turn OFF appliance
- Do NOT continue use
- Contact service
When to contact service
Service is required if:
- Uneven or unstable flames persist after cleaning and proper reassembly
- Flame remains weak, yellow/orange, or does not stabilize
- Multiple burners show the same issue consistently
Possible causes include:
- Faulty igniter
- Gas flow or pressure issue
- Burner or injector issue
- Ignition module or control fault
These components require inspection by a qualified service technician.
