Overview
ILVE Professional Plus ranges use precision gas burners designed to ignite quickly and produce a stable, evenly distributed blue flame during operation.
During normal ignition, a brief gas smell may be present for a few seconds as the burner lights. Once ignition is complete, the gas should burn cleanly with no noticeable odor.
If a gas smell persists during operation or becomes strong, this may indicate incomplete combustion, delayed ignition, or a gas flow issue.
In most cases, this condition is caused by burner blockage, improper ignition, or airflow conditions rather than a gas leak.
Common Causes
If gas smell is present during burner operation, the issue is typically related to:
- Delayed ignition
- Blocked or clogged burner ports
- Burner cap or flame divider misaligned
- Incomplete combustion (yellow/orange flame)
- Burner not lighting fully
- Gas flow irregularity
- Recent cleaning or moisture
Operational Note
A slight gas smell during ignition is normal and should last only a few seconds.
- The burner should ignite quickly and burn cleanly
- A stable blue flame indicates proper combustion
- A persistent gas smell is not normal and should be addressed

Step 1: Confirm when the smell occurs

- Ignite burner
- Observe flame pattern and color
Result interpretation:
- Smell only at ignition → Normal operation
- Smell continues during use → Continue diagnosis
Step 2: Check flame quality
Steps:
- Observe flame color and distribution
Result interpretation:
- Blue, even flame → Normal combustion
- Yellow/orange or uneven flame → Combustion issue
Step 3: Inspect burner ports
Steps:
- Turn off burner and allow to cool
- Inspect burner holes
Action:
- Remove debris
- Ensure all ports are open

Step 4: Inspect burner alignment
Steps:
- Remove grates and burner caps
- Check alignment of burner components

- Reinstall so all parts sit flat and centered
Step 5: Ensure full ignition

- Full ring flame → Normal
- Partial flame → Gas not fully burning

- Allow full drying time
- Retest
Step 7: Check gas supply
Steps:
- Test other burners
- Confirm gas supply is steady
Result interpretation:
- All burners affected → Gas supply issue
- One burner affected → Local burner issue
Step 8: Identify unsafe conditions
Steps:
- Strong gas smell during operation
- Smell persists after cleaning
- Burner does not ignite fully
- Flame is unstable or discolored
If any of these occur:
- Turn OFF appliance
- Do NOT continue use
- Ventilate the area
- Contact service
