In the Woods Residence: A Timeless Kitchen Featuring the ILVE Nostalgie Range
Some kitchens are renovated. Others are restored to themselves.
At In the Woods Residence, designed by Coco & Jack, the goal was never to overwrite the home’s character, it was to reveal it.
This renovation was rooted in preservation. Every decision was made to elevate what already existed, not replace it. The result is a kitchen that feels grounded, intentional, and quietly extraordinary, a space where architecture, light, and material take precedence over trend.
A Layout Reimagined Through Sightlines and Flow
Rather than reconfigure for the sake of change, the design team focused on clarity of movement and visual connection.
Sightlines were opened.
Natural light was invited deeper into the home.
The transition from kitchen to pantry, through dining, and outward toward the landscape was carefully considered.
The outcome is a space that feels:
- More connected
- More open
- More intuitive to live in
This is not just a kitchen redesign; it’s a recalibration of how the home is experienced.
The Island That Anchors Without Demanding Attention
At the center of the kitchen sits a custom-designed island, extending the full length of the room.
It is generous, but never overwhelming.
Substantial, but not dominant.
This balance is intentional.
By omitting overhead pendants, Coco & Jack allowed the architecture itself to lead. Instead, the skylight above introduces soft, natural illumination that reveals texture, tone, and detail throughout the day.
The island becomes what all great kitchen elements should be:
A foundation, not a focal point.
Materiality Over Decoration
This kitchen is defined not by excess, but by restraint.
- Warm wood tones ground the space
- Soft, neutral cabinetry provides quiet structure
- Subtle tilework adds texture without distraction
- Burnished brass introduces depth and patina
Nothing competes. Everything contributes.
This is a masterclass in:
- Proportion
- Balance
- Longevity
Because timeless kitchens are not designed around moments, they are built to endure.
The Range as the Architectural Anchor
At the heart of the kitchen sits the 36” ILVE Nostalgie Dual Fuel Range in Glossy Black with Burnished Brass, a piece that bridges performance and design.
